Govt. Debendra College is one of the leading colleges in Bangladesh. It is the highest seat of learning in Manikganj and is considered the light house of knowledge. It was first founded at Terasree in Manikganj in 1942 on the funding of the Zamindar of Terasree, Siddheswar Roy. Proshad Chowdhury and laborious contribution of Sree Himangshu Bhushan Sarkar. Later in 1943, Danobeer Shaeed Ronoda Proshad Shaha funded the college shouldering the expenditure and flourished it at a full length and named the college after his father's name. It renders education to the students of HSC level under Dhaka Board. It also functions as an affiliated institution of National University, Bangladesh offering degrees: Degree (pass), Honours and Masters. It aims at giving quality education to the students so that they can face the challenges of 21st century. This college is a silent witness of the significant turning points of the history of Bangladesh including the Language Movement of 1952 and the Liberation War of 1971. This institution has been contributing for a pretty long time to build a patriotic, secular and exploitation free society tolerant to different opinions. At present, Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, a dedicated and promising academician adorns the post of principal of this reputed college. The Citizen Charter mirrored to all is a promised note of the service of the present administration by which the authority ensures transparency and accountability to all stake-holders. This institution is also committed to the excellence of the students inner perfection by providing life strengthening keys through BNCC, Rover Scouts, Red Criscent, Language Club, Debating, Club, Science Club, ICT Club, Cultural Club and Innovation Club. The publication of Higher Secondary Lesson Plan is a remarkable instance of authority's sincere efforts to bring a qualitative and positive change in education which will help the young students of the college to make good results in exams.
