IS A RUBBER ROOF RIGHT FOR YOU?

You may be familiar with TPO and EPDM roofing, several common types of rubber roofing. both have great energy savings and are a single-ply application, which makes them very affordable and durable.

WHAT IS SINGLE-PLY RUBBER ROOF?

Single-Ply Membranes are sheets of rubber that can be fastened together with heat, chemicals or glues. This includes TPO, EPDM and PVC Roofing as well. Single-Ply Membrane Roofing is a well-known and common type of rubber roofing. Two main single-ply membrane commercial roofing types are Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) and Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM).

• They manufacture rubber roofing in sheets in a variety or widths, which allows the installer flexibility
• EPDM, PVC and TPO rubber roofing comes in a variety of finishes, but the most common is white, which is naturally reflective, which reduces cooling cost and protects the building from UV rays. Black is also very common.

• First, we will prepare the existing substrate. If the old substrate is beyond repair, we’ll remove and replace it. We will dispose of any debris and clean the entire sub surface.
• After the surface is prepared and clean, we will apply insulation. There are a few types of insulation options the facility manager/owner can choose from.
• Next,  we will install a cover board. They attached the TPO membrane to the cover board with a bonding adhesive or mechanically fastened.
• Once we roll out the membrane, a hot-air gun is used to weld the seams together.

Check with your insurance company as this may reduce your insurance cost.
• TPO Roofing Saves Money because it is generally white and highly reflective. TPO’S white roof and installation will reflect UV rays and heat from the building which will save you cooling costs in the summer months.

EASE OF REPAIRING A RUBBER ROOF:

• • If caught early, small tears and seam separations can be mended and seams can be reinforced. Fixing any trouble spots early will extend the life of your roof.
  • TPO roofing will last approximately 15-20 years and up to 30 years if well maintained.
